Savannah State University Brexit and The Future of The UK Discussion Question
Question Description
Some experts argue that Brexit may have accelerated the break up of the United Kingdom because in Northern Ireland, 52 % of the population voted to remain in European Union while in Scotland, 62% voted to stay in European Union. It was only in England that the Brexiters received enough votes to win the referendum. For the Scottish National Party, the desire of the Scottish people to stay in EU cannot be overridden by mostly English votes in England. Therefore, they believe that total independence from England is a must. Other experts argue that the long tradition and history that link England to Northern Ireland and Scotland are stronger than the desire of some Scottish and Irish people to break up the ties with England. What do you think? Is the UK going to stay forever or it will break up soon or later? Will it be better for them to separate or to stay together?
