Write a Critical Essay. It will require you to synthesize multiple sources to show how different stakeholders discuss and provide evidence for their viewpoints on a highly debated, music-related topic. You will need to think about each stakeholders reasons and assumptions in the debate and contextualize these assumptions within a broader context.

Directions: Write a critical essay in which you synthesize the arguments of the key stakeholders involved in a music-related debate and stake your own position. In addition to your critical essay, create a 3-4 page podcast that features a condensed version of your critical essay for an audience of avid music listeners.

You may use books, websites, articles and editorials from newspapers and magazines, academic journal articles, and even social media posts, provided they are created by a major stakeholder in the music-related issue you have chosen to analyze. You should cite your sources according to MLA guidelines and include a works cited page.
Thesis: Although you will be analyzing other peoples arguments, you will still want to organize your essay around a central thesis, or argument. In particular, you want to avoid stitching together summaries of the different arguments made by stakeholders in a debate without making important connections between them. As you analyze the arguments made by the various stakeholders, you should construct your own argument, indicating points of agreement or disagreement with the various stakeholders. Does a pattern or theme emerge as you view the different arguments? How do the various holders respond to each others arguments? Finally, what are the warrants for your own claim in this music-related debate?MLA Formatting: Your essay will be submitted in MLA format.
