History of Immigration

Treating the root causes of migration makes the challenge manageable. The United States has received many immigrants during the past time and is still receiving immigrants, most of the immigrants who came to the United States because of colonialism, economic problems, or the search for religious freedom. Which is a big problem during this time for the US economy.

Immigration policy always changes and laws evolve for immigration in response to political, economic, and social pressure in the United States of America. The United States at the beginning did not care about the number of immigrants because they benefit from the labor force for little payment. Also, factories and private employers supported the recruitment of immigrant workers and that made more people come to the United State. At the moment, immigrants are a problem for the United States because the American economy bears many expenses such as health insurance, social service, free education, and many others. The root causes of immigration need to be addressed.

Immigration has a long history in the United States for more than two centuries, the United States has received millions of people from all over the world. In the 1400s and 1500s, the European started a new love named the Renaissance. They began to explore the seas and land beyond Europe. Europeans did not know the Western Hemisphere existed. When the European began to find a short sea route to the east. Columbus was the navigator who got this idea. Actually, he Found America instead of the East, and Columbus made three more voyages to the Western Hemisphere. During the 1400s, He came to believe that he had discovered a vast, unknown continent which he called anOther World.” Other Europeans called this unexplored area the “New World” and honored Columbus as its discoverer. Europeans also called the Western Hemisphere America, after Amerigo Vespucci. But the effects of immigration began to appear on American life in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century after the economic impact of immigration it was a complex issue but the solution was not simple. During the first hundred years the United States had no problems with immigration, it was pursuing a policy of non-interference towards immigration- No Limits. According to the article The National Academies Press “In the past, immigrant flows were highly responsive to economic conditions in the United States. The numbers swelled when the U.S. economy was booming, wages were rising, and unemployment was low.” By Susan B. Carter and Richard Sutch. A lot of the population means more workers, and means more production, and that means a lot of labor. When there is more Population consumption, there will be more work. This is the reason why the production system has been rising, and it means the increase and speed of any products due to a large number of laborers, and this made the economy grow faster than before immigration. According to the same article “There is no evidence that immigrants permanently lowered the real wage of resident workers overall in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.” also “There is no evidence that international immigrants increased the rate of unemployment, took jobs from residents, or crowded resident workers into less attractive jobs.” This confirms that immigrants will not impact job opportunities because of the more immigrants, the more jobs. In addition, most of the immigrants are working in jobs that the Native Americans are not working in because they have the language and have a diploma. But the immigrants do not have the language also if they have their diploma they have to get one from here. Also, Most of the immigrants were rich when they came here, they opened their own work and that makes the economy increase. The government can benefit from immigrants and give them the work the American does not like to do because they speak the language and they have the diploma and certification from here, but the immigrants do not have all that they just need the money to pay their payments.

In recent years Immigration increased when there was an economic recession that reached the highest levels of the American recession. Even though a weak economy and increasing immigration led to restrictions on immigration, the immigrants are still coming to the US, but that makes some changes to laws for immigration. When Immigrants have been increased, that impacts the American economy. According to the article The National Academies Press ” some of the largest annual flows in recent years occurred during periods of economic recession in the United States.” By Susan B. Carter and Richard Sutch By Susan B. Carter and Richard Sutch. As the number of immigrants increased, so did the aid provided to immigrants like medical insurance, welfare, food stamps, kids coupons, also the special needs and the seniors. All these aids need a higher economy. The results of the economic recession are the cessation of most businesses from work, which led to an increase in the workforce and stopping buying, which led to a decrease in the economy. According to the Immigration In The United States Of America History Essay “Even though a weak economy and increasing immigration led to restrictions on immigration”. The increase in immigration has prompted the US government to introduce new, more complex restrictions for new immigrants, due to the economic recession. When there is an increase with Population but there is no work that makes the government fail with the economy because they have to survive their life and pay for them the health insurance, welfare, and food stamp so they can buy what they want.

There is more than one cause that makes people leave their countries, but the most important one is economic factors. Economic migration is a commonly cited reason for migration. Most people leave their countries to find a job. They are moving to areas where the wages are higher. According to the article Justice for immigrants “believed that in economic migration people move from poorer developing areas into richer areas where wages are higher and more jobs are available, and to find more opportunities.” People leaving their countries to find work and a higher wage so they can keep going with their life and pay their bills. According to the article Treating the Root Causes of Illegal Immigration, “The lack of hope where jobs are destroyed by flagging economies.” Noriega, Ambassador Roger F. Poverty, unemployment, and jobs are destroyed by flagging economies and that makes people go to another country. Other governments can work more on their economy and find jobs for people so they will not leave their countries, and give their rights.

Other reasons that could be important for immigration are safety factors and social factors. A lot of people leaving their countries because of Persecution and Discrimination, War, Corruption, Gang Violence, Homicides, Food Insecurity, Health, and Education. According to the article Treating the Root Causes of Illegal Immigration: ” The lack of personal security in countries where the police are outgunned by gangs. ” By Noriega, Ambassador Roger F. Immigrants do not feel safe in their home country, and they can not do any changes so they choose to leave for another place to have their rights. The article of Trump’s ‘Remain in Mexico’ Policy Ignores Root Causes of U.S. Migration Crisis. “People leave because of poverty, including health and education, food insecurity, and violence.” They are going to a country that will ensure their wants, to complete their education, and to have a better future. The important thing here is that other governments can work more for their country to make people stay there and do not leave because most of the causes they can work on and fix it. Like education, health, food…etc.

It is important to know the root causes in order to solve the problem and address the defects that have occurred throughout history. This problem affects the countries of origin of immigrants and countries they came to. The root causes of immigration need to be addressed, like gang violence, unemployment, homicides, and poverty. The most obvious solution is for policymakers to create emigration channels for their workers to leave, which can reduce the number of unemployed.
