- One-inch margins
- Double-spaced
- Submitted as a .doc or .docx file
- Note applicable course concepts during the presentation. Do not count on yourself to remember these later.
- You will probably want to watch the speech at least twice in order to develop a cogent argument.
- Think about the audience the speaker is trying to reach. Remember, a speech might sound good, but still fail to reach the target audience.
Structure of the essay:
You should begin with an Introduction that explains: 1) who was speaking; 2) what is the speakers background; and 3) where was the speech given. The Introduction should also include an argumentative thesis statement. This should be a single sentence that encapsulates your paper, and will be supported by your main points.
The body of your essay should be analytical, and based on at least three course concepts (e.g., credibility, organization, delivery, style, etc.). It is important that your assertions are supported by examples.
The conclusion should summarize your argument, and explain what you learned about public speaking after watching the speaker. The essay will also be graded based on grammar, spelling, syntax, coherence, and argumentation.
