ELAC Child Development Anecdotal Records for Three Different Children Template
Question Description
Use the following links to document at least 3 anecdotal records for three different children.
You should stop the video only to record static descriptors. Once you write down the static descriptors let the segment for that child play. Then stop the video and write your anecdote before moving to the next child. DO NOT STOP, REWIND, REPLAY THE VIDEO. You need to practice writing the anecdote from memory. Remember you DO NOT write down EVERYTHING just focus on what was “of note.” Only ONE domain is fine since this is NOT A NARRATIVE. Please type up your anecdotes of the children and include interpretations (ONE DOMAIN, LEVEL, EXAMPLE, as well as Opportunities (What would you do to assist the child in that domain to get them to the next level based on their interests?)
“Lily” Practice Round: Focused observations Chapter 1 Video 1
After you complete this anecdote see how it compared to my sample below:
Observer: Monica Juarez Child Observed: “Lily” wore two pigtails and a short-sleeved light blue blouse.
Age: 3.5 years old Gender: Female
Observation Setting: Indoors in the art center.
Date: 11/1/2019 Time: 10:25am
Anecdote: Lily stood at the whiteboard double-sided easel. She used her right hand to draw with dry erase markers. She alternated using different colored markers to draw circles in a row.
Interpretations: Cognitively Lily is above level as she is able to draw circular shapes in alternating colors.
Opportunities: Lily would benefit from pattern play. I would create a game called “Name that ball pattern.” In this game Lily would create an ABCD pattern using different colored balls based on pictures I provide.
How did you do? Now do the same for the next 3 videos. Focus on the child I outline below. Remember stop only to write static descriptors. Then play the video (PENCIL DOWN!). Write your anecdote based on what stood out. Write your interpretation and at least one opportunity (name an activity and describe in at least 1 sentence). Use the template below:
