• Choose a topic that people care about today… for example, black lives matter, freedom of speech, being eco-friendly…. Analyze the issue with Kant’s Deontology and Mill’s Utilitarianism. Which theory will result in the most ethical world in relation to the topic. Defend your position with both theories. You may choose to pick and choose from both theories or side with one over the other. It is up to you. Your opinion matters. The challenge in ethics class is to defend your position in a convincing way. Also, keep in mind that an argument is strengthened when both sides of the argument are examined. You may have to do additional research into the topic of your choice.There is no one right answer here. You are invited to take a position and defend it with a line of reasoning and evidence. Be sure not to merely summarize the theories but rather defend your position with quotes from the readings, examples, and your own thoughts and experiences. Writing a Philosophy Paper Guidelines

• Grammar matters. Please use complete sentences.
• Reasoning matters. Please be sure that sentences relate to each other. For example, sentence two followsfrom sentence one, and so on.
• Use new paragraphs to indicate a new idea.
• Consider using sub-headings to organize your thoughts and convey them in an organized fashion.
• Be sure to introduce a quote and follow it with a sentence explaining why it is important to the point you aredefending.
• The goal is, in short, to understand the material, convey an understanding of the material, take a position onthe material, and defend the position with reasoning, and quotes from the text and your own experience asevidence.
• While word count and page number matters, conveying your point and defending your position matters aswell.
