College of San Mateo Cross Reading a Poem Essay
Question Description
A little practice for our upcoming essay. Please try your hand at close reading this poem. Minimum 200 words:
I want a tapestry woven of thread—
Of fiery scarlets and violet hues—
So that I may use it to shield my bed
And you said to me, “Nothing less would do.”
We toiled with united hands and hearts
And, eventually, our minds were lost.
We experienced a world filled with art
But too close to the spindle the threads crossed.
So, our clumsy hands knotted our piece
Tears welled up from all the work we had done.
Nothing could be saved, our time had now ceased
Tears fell as we cut the threads one by one.
Separately, we picked up the loose threads
Knowing ours would never cover my bed.
