The implicit association test (IAT) also referred to as Hidden Bias Tests measure unconscious, hidden or automatic biases. The implicit-association test (IAT) is a measure (Links to an external site.) within social psychology (Links to an external site.) designed to detect the strength of a person’s automatic association between mental representations of objects (concepts (Links to an external site.)) in memory (Links to an external site.). The (IAT) was introduced in the scientific literature in 1998 by Anthony Greenwald (Links to an external site.), Debbie McGhee, and Jordan Schwartz.  Your willingness to examine your own possible biases is an important step in understanding the roots of stereotypes and prejudice in our society. The ability to distinguish friend from foe helped early humans survive, and the ability to quickly and automatically categorize people is a fundamental quality of the human mind. Categories give order to life, and every day, we group other people into categories based on social and other characteristics. This is the foundation of stereotypes, prejudice and, ultimately, discrimination. The IAT is now widely used in social psychology research and, to some extent, in clinical (Links to an external site.), cognitive (Links to an external site.), and developmental psychology (Links to an external site.) research. this simulation serves as an opportunity for students to further engage relevant subject matter and course content.  Please complete the test and turn in the results and write a two page double spaced reflective essay interpreting the results (see module links).
