My name is Lexina Husain, I like to go by Lexi. I currently live inGainesville Florida and work at UF Health Shands…Go Gators!! I work onthe Neuro medicine/surgery Intensive Care Unit. Those that know me,know neuro is near and dear to me, helping raise my sister with cerebralpalsy. I have a 16-year-old son who plays sports, which takes up mostof my free time but we both enjoy the quality time together. Lookingforward to working with all of you!

Health care is continuously evolving. Changes in population size,age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and disability have impactedhealthcare resources, cost of care provided and conditions associatedwith healthcare delivery systems (“How”, 2017). Health careorganizations have to continually assess and plan for their changingdemographics care needs. This puts a demand on our delivery ofhealthcare. Technology has been the new wave of promoting wellness andproviding patient care. Taping into technology will affect allpopulations but will continue to enhance care coordination for eachpopulation if current demographic trends resume.

I’m Elizabeth and I live in Ohio, I work as an acute dialysis nurseat a hospital. During my free time I spend that with my children. Ihave two sons ages one and eleven and two daughters ages three andsixteen. Those that know me, know that I love spending all my time withmy children they are my world.

As you know the healthcare system in always changing and advancing technology daily. According to the United Nations (Links to an external site.),the world’s population is expected to increase by one billion people by2025. Of that billion, 300 million will be people aged 65 or older, aslife expectancy around the globe continues to rise. Additionalhealthcare resources and service innovation is needed globally todeliver the long-term care and chronic disease management servicesrequired by a rapidly increasing senior population (Changing” 2017 Par.2). As rapid growing population grows, technological innovation towardsmobile health. Mobile health will advance cost-effective healthsolutions. Technology and analytics are ushering new ways of promotingwellness, preventing disease and providing patient-center care.

Myname is Sharon. I live in Oklahoma and work as a Med-Surge nurse. I amfascinated by physiology and how the body works and self-regulates.Health informatics, to my understanding, is the digital systems that areused in healthcare, including charting systems, communication systems,data collection, graphing, and publishing of research articles. I hopeto learn more from this course about what opportunities healthinformatics provides, and how to use it better in my nursing practice.

In my experience, the use of health care informatics allows us accessto the most recent information that we can use to help our patients,and allows us to spend less time charting and contacting HCPs, and moretime actually with the patients. “A well-designed system…can helpnurses answer questions quickly, chart comprehensively, and look uppatient information effortlessly; all of this frees up time for the busyclinician that could be better spent with patients” (Quinn, 2017, p.6). The more time we spend with patients, the better we are able totreat them. Health informatics also allows nurses access to trainingtools, reference tools, evidence-based research, and many of things thatimprove our personal and team practice. This training makes us betterinformed and more attentive, and we can thus care for our patients evenbetter, keeping them safe.

Hello, my name is Kelly Bolois. I live in Broadview Heights, Ohio, Igraduated with my RN about 1 year ago, and since then I have beenworking in the emergency department. Prior to the emergency room I wasan LPN for 10 years and worked in a SNF for 16 years. I have alwayswanted to be a nurse, never once that I can remember ever wanting to beanything other than a nurse, even an emergency room nurse has alwaysbeen my dream job since I was a little girl. I come from a family offemale nurses, so I think it is safe to say this profession runs in myblood. The emergency room has always appealed to me because I love theconstant change, and the unknown of what is coming through the doors atanytime. I love the fact this working in the emergency room gives me theopportunity to utilize all of my nursing skills on a daily basis, andmaintain a critical thinking mind. I love being able to help people attheir worst, or their sickest days, and stabilize them and then move onto the next patient. I find it to be the most rewarding job. Never aboring or dull moment, and if there is well then I live it up as itwon’t last long. My current understanding of health informatics is, it’sbased on computerized, or digital systems that helps with gathering,obtaining and utilizing health care information for graphing, research,and information technologies. I hope to gain a better understanding ofhealth informatics and how it’s used in health care to deliver a betterhealth care system.
