USC Menopause Is the Natural Cessation of Ovarian Function & Menstruation Thesis
Question Description
Menopause is not an unfamiliar word, but lack of knowledge and education is causing woman not aware of what is coming and how to face it. Traditionally, menopause has been discussed only by women approaching middle age, with few resources for partners and children, but this is wrong, because the more openly talking about menopause, menopausal people – women, neutrals and transgender people with ovaries may experience menopausal symptoms – will feel the body and emotions they are experiencing. This is especially important now, with pandemic-associated depression and anxiety potentially exacerbating this difficult part of aging.
Menopause is the natural cessation of ovarian function and menstruation. It can occur between the ages of 42 and 56 but usually occurs around the age of 51, when the ovaries stop producing eggs to the uterus and hormones estrogen levels decline, which is important to cholesterol levels and reproductive, bone and skin health. It can also affect the brain (including moods) and body tissues. Decreasing estrogen levels can result in hot flashes, mood swings, depression, anxiety and irregular periods during perimenopause, and those symptoms can continue into the rest of the menopausal process after periods end. The median number of years women experience vasomotor symptoms — hot flashes and night sweats. There may also be discomfort or frequent urinary tract infections that could leads to illness.
With the development of society, women should be more cared for. Women will experience menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum physical problems in their lives under the environment and job pressure. The years leading up to menopause and the transition itself can bring changes to woman’s body. But they can also have an effect on their mind, specifically their mental health. The incidence of depression doubles during this time.
In order to let women be educated about menopause, I want to design a center that is open for all woman with promoting physical and psychological well-being treatment and education. This facility will have different activity classes such as Cardio, yoga and dancing classes that will encourage them to stay motivated. During the menopause stage, this is the time to making healthy lifestyle choices, Eating well and being physically active will make the midlife transition easier, an demonstrate open kitchen will be designed for participants to cook and learn nutrition together, also a conference room that allows participants communicate and support each other, but not felt left out. Menopause center also incorporates a meditation area that could help reduce the anxiety and stress. I hope this center can help women understand more about menopause while enjoying healthy happiness.
