FIU Criminological Theories that Explain Why Criminal Committed Crimes Discussion

Question Description

I’m working on a Law writing question and need a sample draft to help me understand better.

Section 1- criminal background summary: Before you can apply a theory, you must know your case. Select a famous fictional or real-life criminal. Briefly summarize who they are and their criminal history as well as any important personal history. For fictional characters, be sure to mention where they came from (e.g. what movie, what book/comic/game, etc.). If your fictional character has several versions (e.g. the Joker is featured in several books, comics, and movies.), specify which version you will be discussing. Focus on the behaviors or backgrounds that will help you support your theory evaluations. For example, if your theory involves biological/genetic factors, be sure to include information to show evidence your criminal meets this criteria.

Section 2- two theories that explain the criminal’s behavior: Pick two (2) theories that explain why this criminal committed their crimes. Briefly summarize each theory. Explain (by giving specific examples from the criminal’s background or behavior) how these theories explain why the criminal committed their crime. Use examples of their crimes and their personal history to support your argument. Discuss some of the weaknesses of each theory and how they applied to the criminal. Remember, the point of this paper is to demonstrate your understanding of various criminological theories. Make sure you give both theories enough attention. If you give great detail on one theory but only vaguely discuss the second theory, you will receive a lower score.

Section 3- two theories that cannot (or poorly) explain the criminal’s behavior: Not every theory is able to explain every criminal behavior and it is important to understand the limitations of criminological theories. Pick two (2) theories that CANNOT explain (or poorly explain) why this criminal committed their crimes. Briefly summarize each theory. Explain why these theories do not explain why the criminal committed their crimes. Use examples of their crimes and their personal history to support your argument. Discuss some of the strengths of each of these theories and how they might explain other criminal behavior. Remember, the point of this paper is to demonstrate your understanding of various criminological theories. Make sure you give both theories enough attention. If you give great detail on one theory but only vaguely discuss the second theory, you will receive a lower score.

Formatting and length:

How long does the paper need to be?

Your paper must be at least four (4) pages in length (1000 words, not counting your title page or references). You are not allowed to use quotes and must put everything in your own words. If you use quotes, the word count of your quotes will be subtracted from your final word count. Failure to meet the minimum word count will result in a lower grade. Keep in mind you need to adequately cover all the required information. Giving me three pages that covers the summary of your criminal’s background while only devoting one page to the rest of the sections will not get you a good grade. You need to either write in a concise manner or go over four pages. . Your font should be 12pt. Times New Roman type, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins.

APA citation and formatting:

Do I need an abstract or table of contents?

No, but you do need a reference list. These will not be counted towards your minimum word count.

Do I need a reference list and in-text citations?

Yes, failure to have a reference list AND in-text citations will result in a lower score.
