Question Description
Assignment Expectations –
Length: 500+ words total for this assignment
Structure: Include a title page and reference page in APA style. These do not count towards the minimal word amount for this assignment.
References: Use the appropriate APA style in-text citations and references for all resources utilized to answer the questions. Include at least one (1) scholarly reference to support your claims. Use in-text citations as needed.
Format: Save your assignment as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx).
Reflect upon “Polynomials”, answer the following questions (be sure to detail how you arrived at your answer):
- Explain the difference between a monomial, a binomial, and a trinomial (paraphrase your answer).
- Use the Product Property for Exponents to explain why x · x = x2.
- You can use binomial multiplication to multiply numbers without a calculator. Say you need to multiply 18 times 17. Think of 18 as 20 − 2 and 17 as 20 − 3.
- Multiply (20 − 2)(20 − 3) by the FOIL method.
- Multiply 18 · 17 showing your work.
- Which way is easier for you? Why?
- You can use the binomial squares pattern to multiply numbers without a calculator. Say you need to square 65. Think of 65 as 60+5.
- Multiply (60 + 5)2 by using the binomial squares pattern, (a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2 .
- Square 65 without using a calculator.
- Which way is easier for you? Why?
- Use One megabyte is approximately 106 bytes. One gigabyte is approximately 109 bytes. How many megabytes are in one gigabyte?
- When you convert a number from decimal notation to scientific notation, how do you know if the exponent will be positive or negative?
Strategy for success:
For each of the questions above, please go beyond the textbook and provide your own insights and analyses. Please use your own words to paraphrase and explain. Whenever you can, please offer real-world examples. Please be as detailed and as thorough as you can in providing mathematical calculations (i.e. beyond textual descriptions). Please do not just describe conceptual logic (even with some numbers) in paragraph format; your solutions should be mathematical equations with step-by-step calculations. Show all work. Where applicable, please include diagrams, graphs and charts.
Note: Please answer as required. Please CLEARLY label each question with the associated answer showing all work. Explain the logic by which you arrive at your mathematical answers. When applicable, show all steps of derivation. Since this is a math course, please do not provide just textual explanations. Please provide any diagrams, charts, graphs or other visualization to support your math. Type out equations and use computer graphs. Please do not submit hand-written images.
