San Jose State University Ethical Data and Information Management Response

San Jose State University Ethical Data and Information Management Response

San Jose State University Ethical Data and Information Management Response

Question Description

Answer 1

Today’s discussion is going to be about ethics and information management where I will be explaining both these concepts by focusing on the questions specifically stated in the assignment. Starting with the first about comparing the articles and noting the similarities as well as differences. On one hand, the article by Mason (Year, 2017) tells that the information and data regarding ethical issues consist of both electronic and physical data which is associated with the structure of the company, which should be strong enough to make sure the mentioned information through the given data lifecycle. This occurs when the direct source of the data lifecycle and the proper format which involves videos, audio, which keeps a secure and accurate track of the ethical aspects.

On the other hand, based on Smith and Wong (Year, 2016) article says that the information managed with regards to ethical issues is considered as a big collection of information as well as the distribution of the information. As a note, this process involves the stakeholders to have access to the right information. In this process, the management is given control over the structure of the business as well as the steps for the distribution of the information.

Moving on and comparing the articles to chapter 14, both the cases are considered to be more or less equivalent. Both have trade-offs between the different competing habits as well as issues related to the various privacy policies. When talking about privacy invasion, the aspects related are unethical but the mentioned underlying corporate attitude is ethical. As a conclusion to this discussion, it is agreeable to say that information management is considered as one of the core corporate responsibilities, and it needs an effective and efficient way to eliminate all the unethical aspects which are directly related to the organization. The company in this regard should be held responsible and accountable for any storage of data, sharing of data as well any other related activities with respect to storing and delivering the information.

Answer 2

In both articles regarding health information management by Brall C. et al, 2019 and Dorey M. C., 2016, there is a clear message regarding ethical standards and rules concerning how health information is being shared to end users. This is especially the case with growing health information complexity through digitization, which has formed as a boon and bane for many, with many beginning to be under the health illiteracy due to lack of information from these health providers (Brall C., Schröder-Bäck P. Maeckelberghe E., 2019).

The problem here the authors feel that, health information and digital health information is not being shared by health providers as necessary for general public to know and instead only required information is seldom shared (Brall C., Schröder-Bäck P. Maeckelberghe E., 2019). The role of federal bodies is usually understated in such ethical decisions and hence have to lay out in a broader fashion to help members understand and be educated about their health with these companies. This cannot be achieved by the laws alone and needs ethical upheaving of the companies that provide health as well and by following certain health guidelines can be made possible (Dorey M. C., 2016). For me, this will help organization define such health parameters in an ethical and fair way while keeping general public interests in mind.

I feel employee monitoring which happens in several organizations is a threat to employee and employer work relationship as this in a way symbolizes lack of trust and ownership from the employer. More and more companies affected by covid have moved to working remotely and thus trust has become even more important in today’s world. While I understand employers are concerned about productivity and safety, banning certain sites to limit usage and also having periodic work checks (not monitoring) to look at employees productivity would help employees reach their true potential and also alleviate any concerns for both parties involved.
