SUNY Empire State College Functional Behavior Assessment Paper
Question Description
When a students classroom behavior (a) consistently interferes with the students own learning, (b) consistently interferes with other students learning, or (c) consistently interferes with a teachers ability to conduct class, some form of intervention plan is needed (Zirpoli, 199).
Before a plan is put in place it is important that we understand the function of the problem behavior. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to complete a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA).
For this assignment you will complete an FBA on a student of yours or Distractible Dan from a video.
You must complete all the steps from the guidelines by using each bullet as a heading in your paper.
To give you more help in completing the FBA please refer to the Iris center module on Functional Behavior Assessment.
Assignment Guidelines
Your Functional Behavior Assessment must include:
- A short description of the student (If using the student from the video you may make some assumptions in your description.)
- The target behavior defined in observable, measurable terms (use verbs)
- Baseline data on frequency and interval with an analysis of the data you collect. Click here to print a blank partial interval recording form and here to print a blank event frequency recording form that can be used to collect your own data
- An ABC chart with analysis of the data ( Click to download the ABC analysis form (DOC))
- A description of a replacement behavior
- How you will teach the new behavior (specific strategies we have learned that you will use)
- How you will monitor and maintain the behavior
- A reflection discussing the process of developing a FBA, and how it can help teachers mitigate behavior problems in the classroom.
