Question Description

Help with discussion and response. About 4 sentences for each include references

Part 1~Organizations are cutting costs and making decisions to offer employees remote work. In this week’s discussion, your boss just informed you that you will work remotely starting Friday. You are concerned you will have a difficult time building and maintaining relationships. The following are areas of concern for you:

  • Leader-member relationships.
  • Coworker relationships.
  • Boundary-spanning relationships extending outside the organization.
  • Choose one area and explain how you will maintain the relationship you identified with specific steps you will take to build the relationship.
  • 1st respond: Of the three areas, the most important for me and the one I would maintain would be leader-member relationships. I find that I am relaxed and less stressed when I communicate with my leader and/or my manager. I believe that the ability to communicate with a leader is important to one’s emotional intelligence has positively impacted both professional and personal relationships. To properly maintain this relationship, I would reach out to my manager weekly either by telephone, email, or virtual meetings. If possible, weekly exchanges would occur two or three times each week. Virtual meetings would provide updates on special projects and assignments and obtain answers to any questions. Virtual meetings would also be used to obtain clarifications and to ask lengthy questions, and for follow-ups. I would initially request a preference to make sure my contact methods do not inconvenience my manager.

Respond 2: It is hard to chose just one to speak on of the three relationships because I started teleworking in March. What makes that even more challenging than it would normally be is that I came to the unit in late February. I was not familiar with my supervisors, peers, subordinates or the type of work. I have had to navigate those relationships in person on our sparing-in-office work days, via text, email and conference calls. The section has a monthly All Hands conference call where we catch up with each other on the progress of investigations, and on going missions. We also acknowledge promotions, new hires, retirements, departures and births. This call facilitates a good leader-member relationship. Our team-member exchange (coworker relationship) starts with daily accountability via text if it is not our day to come into the office.

As we all know, ascertaining someone’s mood or intent can be difficult when using technology because the intricacies of human interaction is reduced or absent. Communication, regardless of the medium is the key to this new work environment. The boundary-spanning relationship is not left out. In addition to my coworkers at my office, I have had to reach out and form relationships with the office that we support in Chantilly too. Lots of emails and phone calls for this relationship. Prior to this assignment, I would have said that work relationships have to be built in person to be effective. This has taught me that when you put your mind and dedication to success – anything is possible.

Part 2

Share a time when you provided feedback to someone (for example, informal colleague feedback after a meeting or presentation or formal feedback such as during a performance review).

  • How was it received?
  • What did you do well?
  • Knowing what you know now, how would you have improved it for a better result, relationship, or both?

Share a time when someone provided you with feedback

  • How did it make you feel and what was your response?
  • Knowing what you know now, would you have listened or responded differently?
  • Part 2 a: 1st respond: My daugther decided that this year he wanted to cook Thanksgiving dinner for the family. This is her first year of cooking by herself in the kitchen. I was nervous about her cooking because we have always cooked in the kitchen as a family on holidays. When we arrived she had the table set up in buffet style. She blessed the food and then started talking about the items that she didn’t think that she do good on. I fixed my plate and begin to eat. She was like how is the food. I told her let me finish my plate and I’ll let her know. When i was finish eating I gave her tips on what she can do different next time. The overall meal was good and i told her job well done. I know that when I complete my assignments I look forward to reading the feedback from the professor and classmates to get a better understanding of what I’m doing. If the feedback is negative then I would use it to my advantage to improve my work. If the feedback is good then I know what im on the right track.

  • – tyzilla2nd respond: Normally I provide feedback to my coworkers about missing information and how to eliminate the issue moving forward. Some of my job duties include completing bank reconciliations for over 40 clients and also keeping up with the Cash On Hand. They submit receipts, deposits, Call Team Meetings, and etic… Sometimes I do not receive all of the information required to complete the process. Oftentimes, I will send out an emailing explaining how and when they should get the information to me. I know work can be busy and we all forget things from time to time. But in order to do an efficient job, I suggest to my coworkers that they should submit all important documentation to me as soon as it arrives. The longer you wait to submit, the more likely it will be forgotten and even could become lost among papers on their desks. The message is usually received well, and they have a full understanding of the message. I believe I clearly conveyed the message to them. I tend to include a deadline for when I need the information also. Knowing what I know now, I would have written a rough draft of the email and check for any errors. You can always find your own errors if you read it enough times. We recently hired on Financial Consultant to assist with making day to day activities more efficient so that we can continue to have successful audits. Christine informed that we would be completely getting rid of our old general ledger codes and will be implementing completely new ones. She said that the way we were currently doing it was causing issues. This information made me feel great knowing that we would have a larger number of departments that we would be able to code to. I adapted very quickly and immediately type up a “cheat sheet” that would make the transition a lot smoother. I personally think I responded well to what she had to say. I was excited and eager for the change, because I felt the same way about our old processes as she did. She provided feedback that would improve on the company as a whole. Even though some of the processes that I normally did had to change, it was for the greater good. The feedback was helpful and beneficial-Dymond
