Queens University of Charlotte Journal and Self Assessment Paper

Question Description

Journal:

The purpose of this journal assignment is to help you become more aware of your negotiation strengths and weaknesses. You are to keep a weekly journal and write a brief summary of a negotiation experience every week. If we have a simulation during a week, you need to write about the simulation, what happened, use what you learned in class to analyze the simulation experience. On the weeks (starting from week 2) when we don’t have a simulation, you will write about an everyday negotiation you had and analyze it using the concepts and theories you learn in class. The weekly entry doesn’t have to be long. The purpose is for you to track your own progress and make you more aware of negotiation situations. You will also rely on the journal to write your final self-assessment paper.

Journal Format:

Self-Assessment Paper

For the assessment paper, please reflect on what you have learned from your negotiation experiences (simulation as well as everyday situations). Your negotiation experiences could include in-class simulations and negotiation tasks/situations outside of classroom. Use the concepts and strategies learned in class to analyze your negotiation strengths and weaknesses.

You should use concepts and strategies to structure your assessment. You should discuss at least 5 strategies or concepts you learn throughout the semester. For example, your paper can have five sections and each section can focus on one concept/strategy (e.g., negotiation preparation). You will then use simulations or real life experiences to discuss how you did in terms of negotiation preparation and how you would do differently if you were to negotiate again in the future. Examples of strategies/concepts include using distributive and integrative strategies, BATNA, cultural differences, ethics, handling communication, dealing with trust, and use of persuasive skills. Remember to use specific examples when you discuss these concepts.
