Cal Poly Conflict MGT Style Is Collaborative Difficult & Time Consuming Reflection
Question Description
Instructions: This second reflection assignment contains two parts: 1) An examination of your conflict management styles and 2) What forgiveness looks like for you specifically. Please upload a Word document (1-4 pages). It can be single or double-spaced. The goal is to make this reflection personally meaningful to you.
Follow this link and take the assessment: http://www.blake-group.com/sites/default/files/ass…
After you’ve finished tallying up your scores on the second page, scroll to the bottom (the third page) to find out what your conflict management style is.
Please answer the following questions:
- What is your conflict management style? What was your total score for this style?
- Do you agree with the description? If not, which style do you think describes you more accurately? Why?
- Think of a time when you utilized this conflict management style. What was the argument/conflict about? Who was involved? How did you feel? What was the outcome?
- What was your second-highest rated conflict management style? What was your total score for this style? Do you identify with this conflict management style more than your top-rated one?
- What are some past experiences that may have shaped you to utilize this conflict management style?
- Do you want to change how you manage conflict or are you happy with your results?
The second part of this reflection is about forgiveness. You may choose to combine your responses to the questions below with the questions above (for example, the person in the conflict above may be the same person you want to forgive below). You may also choose to speak about two separate instances (your conflict management example can be completely different from the forgiveness example).
Please answer the following questions:
- Have you come to associate a person with a painful memory or negativity? If so, who? Why? What happened? How does this person make you feel?
- Do you want to forgive this person? If so, what are some steps you can take to forgive them (how can you work on your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to let go of this grudge)?
- If you have already forgiven them, what did this healing process look like for you?
- If you don’t want to forgive them, why not? What are the costs of holding onto this resentment?
- What are some benefits you might see for yourself if you forgave them?
