Hello Class & Professor Dashevsky,
This week we were asked to evaluate the University Medical Cancer Care Center Case Study (UMCCC). UMCCC was inspected by The Joint Commission (TJC) after three years of opening and passed with high accommodation. TJC is the oldest non-profit standard setting accrediting organization with an objective to evaluate and inspect HCO’s to continuously improve healthcare for the public (Perrin, 2015). TJC’s evaluates the clinical staff, clinical support staff, non-clinical staff, laboratory, CTPES staff, finance, accounting, board of directors, executive administrators, and patients and visitor satisfaction.
I believe it is important for residents and out-patients to be made aware of the accreditation and standard setting process of UMCCC and know that their facility continuously makes an effort to provide the best care possible for its patients. The staff is aware of TJC evaluation and its results should not be kept from patients. Allowing patients to have access to TJC results will only improve their confidence in UMCCC and would increase the likelihood of them suggested the facility to facility to potential patients. Furthermore, if patients are made aware of the process of evaluations it could potentially positively impact future results. A few ways to make the results available and easily accessible to patients and residents include having them available in the entry and waiting area, posting the results on the UMCCC website, sending a UMCCC email to residents and outpatients, having a summary of the evaluations posted throughout the hospital, and a TJC high accommodations placard placed in the UMCCC welcome area.

Chapter 14 case study Reply 2 Priscilla:
In the case study, the University Medical Cancer Care Center (UMCCC) was first opened in 2003. After three years of it being opened, TJC inspected the UMCCC, and the UMCCC passed the inspection with high accommodation. Four years after the inspection, the board of directors decided that it was time for an evaluation of the center before the next TJC inspection in two years. In order to start the process, the board of directors decided to hire the ABC team to conduct the evaluation (Perrin, 2015, p. 392).
This team should consider not only putting the results of the evaluation in the staff lounge of the assisted living facility but also making them available to residents and out-patients. The reason is because by making the results of the evaluation available to residents and out-patients, it will also allow them to give feedback on the results. This can help the ABC team because they will gain more feedback from not only the staff members, but they will also gain feedback from the residents and out-patients. All that feedback will allow the ABC team to make any changes or improvements in their evaluation, which can help the UMCCC to do even better in their next TJC inspection. In order to best accomplish this, the ABC team should make the results of the evaluation accessible in the waiting room and everywhere else in the care center. Also, the ABC team can go around and personally hand them out to the residents and out-patients themselves.
