Hi Students – according to Byrd (2020) the overall health of the elderly population in America is improving, but minority elders are disproportionately affected by differences in access to care and are less likely to receive routine medical care. Research has shown that minority elders are a population that is receiving a markedly lower quality of care than their white counterparts, and this is unacceptable from a social justice standpoint. Consistency and equity of care should be promoted not only because it is just, but because healthcare disparities are costly and can lead to significant morbidity and disability. Poorly managed care, or missed diagnoses, can lead to avoidable complications and significantly impact an individual’s health, quality of life, and life expectancy. It is essential to understand how this type of disparity occurs in order to devise a plan to eliminate this problem (para. 2). Do you know of any policies in your state that are helping to address these issues in the elder population?

Objective: Present health policies and describe the importance of inclusivity.

Consider the following segments of the population, especially within your own community:

• Pregnant mothers; children
• Seniors
• Veterans
• Individuals with mental health illnesses
• LGBTQ and gender fluid

Assignment

Many groups across the United States feel as though they do not receive equity when it comes to health care. Think about the iron triangle: access, quality, and cost.

Create a PowerPoint presentation to present to your community that promotes inclusivity for all segments of the population. Describe the benefits of healthcare inclusivity within your community using one of the population segments above as your example.

• Describe the basic and unique healthcare needs of the population.
• Recommend ways (policies) to provide healthcare needs (address the iron triangle).
• Describe specific benefits to the population and the community by meeting the healthcare needs of this population.

• Your PowerPoint must be four to five slides, not including the title slide and the reference list.
• You must cite and reference two or more sources.
• Use APA Style. Include notes in the notes section, or recorded audio to go along with each slide.
• Your notes or audio must completely explain the images and items on the slides.
• Be sure to include an introduction and a conclusion to your presentation.
