CUNY Lehman College ?human Body Disease Systems Presentation
Question Description
The Human Disease Project
You have recently graduated from college and have just landed your first fulltime job! Thanks to your extensive science background, you have been hired as a Health Educator. Your position requires you to research diseases that affect members of the community and present your work to family and patients.
Task
Design a brochure, poster, or powerpoint presentation about a disease that affects the human body.
Your presentation should be informative
You should present your material in a manner that people with a basic high school education could understand.
Your presentation should be interesting and hold the attention of the same audience.
You must have a strong visual presentation.
The presentation and deliverable must include the following information about your disease:
A basic description of the disease
A brief history of the disease
Age group/gender/cultural group most affected by this disease
The symptoms of the disease
How the body is affected by the disease
Cures or treatments for the disease
What causes the disease (how can a person get it)
How a person’s daily life is affected by the disease
Number of Americans affected by the disease
Work Cited Page with at least three different sources. (Wikipedia may not be one of these three main sources.)
The items in bold must relate to the topics of the course: molecules, cells, DNA, heredity, cell division, evolution, as much as possible and appropriate.
You cannot use the disease that your lecture instructor uses as the main example or theme of the course.
If you choose to do a pamphlet, this is a model. If you do a poster or set of slides, this format can be adjusted. The oral presentation is a powerpoint, so this can be used as a guide for that also.
Tri-fold Brochure
Your health brochure can be completed in one of two ways:
Using a computer program, such as Microsoft Publisher
By hand, using heavy-duty construction paper or oak tagwritten work should be typed and pasted neatly to the paper.
Layout:
Your health brochure should include a cover, 4 sections of information, and the back. Each section should have both written information, pictures, photos or clip art that correspond to the text. The brochure must be arranged as follows:
Inside
Section 1 ~Brief history of disease ~Image related to the topic. |
Section 2 ~Symptoms of the disease ~How the disease affects the body (what body system does it affect-be specific as to how it attacks organs or parts of a particular body system) ~image of body system affected |
Section 3 ~How does the disease affect a persons daily life ~Prevention of the disease ~image related to the information |
Outside
Section 4 ~Basic description of the disease ~Cause of the disease ~Age group, gender, cultural group most affected by disease ~image that relates to the information |
Back ~MLA Works Cited Page with at least three different sources. |
Cover ~Name of disease ~Student first and last name ~Date ~Block ~Pictures, photos, or clip art |
Remember to relate to the course topics as much as possible and appropriate!
