Question Description
FIRST QUESTION
As you read pages 116-175 in The Orphan Master’s Son did you come across any quotes that sounded familiar? What are they and who said them? What do you think of the exchange of the high schooler writing a paper on forgiveness and her mother? Have you had a similar experience to the high school writer’s? (100 + words, please.)
After you post your entry, please comment on at least two of your classmates’ observations.
Just for your information: Hannah Arendt wrote many books, and she covered the trial of Adolf Eichmann after World War II for The New Yorker magazine in 1961-1963 that then became a book: Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil.
This is from the Bard College site: about her report on Eichmann:
Arendt argues that Eichmann was not a monster. She was struck both by the immensity of Eichmanns crimes and the ordinariness of the man. It is one thing to kill out of malice. But how could a man responsible for transporting millions of Jews to their deaths insist he was a Zionist and seek understanding from his Jewish interrogators in Israel? Arendt saw that Eichmann became a mass murderer not simply from hatredhe never murdered anyone and initially resisted the physical killing of Jewsbut from his fervent dedication to the Nazi movement.
