Question Description

This assignment requires a written version of your Spark page, web page, video, or Tedtalk. Please think about this as a script for the info you plan to include in your final presentations.

TURN IN ON CANVAS IN THE FORM OF A PAPER WITH A PRO/CON or ADVANTAGES/DISADVANTAGES CLEARLY DEFINED. You must have a full intro with background (which can be info you started in your proposal), sections that help you define your structure, a call to action and a works cited page.

PLAN ON CLASS PRESENTATIONS OF WHAT YOU HAVE SO FAR< WHAT YOU PLAN TO DO< AND HOW YOU PLAN TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER!

You will share your project on Draft Day–this is worth 100 possible points. You also need to submit in paper format in Canvas individually for credit.

Remember, you don’t have to solve the argument, but you must show multiple perspectives.

YOUR DRAFT NEEDS to CONTAIN: at the very minimum, an outline, what you have so far, a Works-Cited page with 10 sources and what you still need to do to finish your research.

Sources: For your final project, use a minimum of 10 varied and CURRENT sources. I would suggest using Noodle Tools, Easy Bib or some other citation generator for your Works Cited Page. For example, journals in your major, Internet sources, interviews (no textbooks, please or encyclopedias – unless they are specialized encyclopedias in your field of study and you are using them for definitions of concepts). Books (often outdated by the time they get published) are generally poor sources for scientific subjects except for background info. Trade magazines or special interest group sources have built-in biases but can have some valuable information. But, for example, if you are writing about the value of advertising on the Internet, a company whose product is Internet advertisements would probably not be an objective source but might be a good source for showing what is being done with Internet advertising. But you would have to point out the possible biased interest of the source. Check the source of all information for reliability. Is the Internet site sanctioned by a reputable institution or organization? Does the person you interview have credentials and experience with your subject? Does he or she have a built-in bias you need to address in your paper? What biases of your own may you have to be aware of to produce a scholarly look at this subject?

Documentation: Follow the online MLA Style Guide (latest version) for documenting the sources in your text and your WORKS CITED Page.

BASIC FOR ALL: START WITH YOUR QUESTION

TIPS ON QUESTIONS: A good research paper addresses a specific research question. The research question—or study objective or main research hypothesis—is the central organizing principle of the paper. Whatever relates to the research question belongs in the paper; the rest doesn’t. This is perhaps obvious when the paper reports on a well planned research project. However, in applied domains such as quality improvement, some papers are written based on projects that were undertaken for operational reasons, and not with the primary aim of producing new knowledge. In such cases, authors should define the main research question a posteriori and design the paper around it.

Generally, only one main research question should be addressed in a paper.

What is a good research question? The key attributes are: (i) specificity; (ii) originality or novelty; and (iii) general relevance to a broad community. The research question should be precise and not merely identify a general area of inquiry
