2. Calculate the mass of calcium chloride powder and deionized water needed to make:

a. 300 mL of a 2% weight solution of calcium in deionized water.

b. 300 mL of a 5% weight solution of calcium in deionized water.

3. Refer to the purpose of the lab. Calcium alginate gel beads will be fabricated from various percent weight sodium alginate solutions and 2% and 5% wt. calcium alginate solutions during this lab. You will determine the rate of dispensation and size of sodium alginate solution drops used to form the alginate gel beads. In order to complete the procedure, select:

• Syringe pump dispensation rates (upper limit of the machine: 0.1 mL/hour, lower limit of the machine: 126.7 mL/hour)

• Syringe needle gauge size(s) (choose from: 18, 22, and 26 gauge)

• Stir rate(s)

• Distance(s) between needle tip and surface of calcium chloride solution
