The role of health education in health promotion is educate patients so the patients are able to make informed decisions about their own care. Then patients will have control over their own care with the knowledge given to them by professional health care staff. For example, a patient with diabetes can be taught how to monitor their own blood sugar levels, administer medications properly and accordingly, they can plan their own diet based on what they were shown, and they can devise their own plan of activities. This gives the patient control and empowerment over their own health and not have to depend on professional help every step of the way. The nursing process helps to solve problems by identifying, preventing, and treating health issues that may arise. This can be helpful for patients to recognize symptoms they may be having in order to administer medication when needed or to seek help when warning signs warrant the need for professional help. The patient has expectations when requesting help from professional health care staff such as a nurse and it is the nurse’s responsibility to build trust and a god rapport with each patient so they can feel confident their being treated properly and can feel better about the prognosis. With today’s pandemic, nurses are overwhelmed at times and short staffing can be an issue. Following the nursing process with each patient can assure they are getting the best possible care and can help the nurse be more consistent in their care, because with consistency comes accuracy and this helps to expedite care in a healthy but efficient way (Semachew, 2018).
