Overview
Topic content can be located in many different sources:
- Internal (what you already know from experiences, ideas, and knowledge).
- External (research, knowledge, and experience you don’t personally have).
- Professional Organizations – Association for Talent Development (ATD).
- Internet – found through search engines or specific training sites.
- Library – books and textbooks, periodicals, full text databases, newspapers, reference resources, government documents.
- Subject Matter Experts (SME) – professionals, educators.
- Commercial – Published training books, manuals, and Web sites.
Action Items
- Locate 5 credible sources to obtain content and materials for your training module. Your citations are to be from a variety of sources (e.g., internal sources and external sources such as professional organizations, Internet, library, experts, or commercial).
- Apply the following criteria to each of your identified sources to find at least five credible sources to obtain content and materials for your training module.
- Accountability: Who “owns” the Web site or materials?
- Accuracy: How were the sources for the information identified? What evidence or support do you have for the accuracy of the information?
- Objectivity: How did you determine that information offered by this source was objective?
- Date: How did you determine the recency of the information?
- Usability: What was your opinion about the usability of the information? Why?
