1. An instrument that helps me with pitch would be a guitar because of all the different pitches you can make by placing your finger is different places on the instrument and how you hit the strings. If you have your fingers pressed down more on the end of the strings or more towards the beginning of the strings it will make two completely different pitches and noises. Overall, when thinking about sounds the thing I think about the most is people’s voices. That is because no matter how many people you talk to you will always hear a different sound, pitch, and tone in their voice. Some will be higher, and others will be deeper, no matter what they will always be different. My last example would be just hitting different things, if you tap your knuckles on a brick wall and then on a wooden wall, they will be totally different noises and everything. No two things will be the same but sometimes they will be a little similar.

2. the thing that helps me to understand these the best is a piano. A piano can produce low or high sounds. The strings move each time you hit a key, making them vibrate. Depending on the vibrations, the sound will be low or high. If the string vibrates fast, the sound will be high pitched, and opposite if the string is vibrating slowly. The keys on the piano repeat in order from A-G, on one side, G might be higher than A but on the other side it is lower. When reading music, the musician knows whether to play the note softly, loud, or in-between, by reading the symbols of dynamics.

When I think of sound I think of voices. People can change their voices to hit notes when singing. Our vocal cords affect the pitch of our voices just like an instrument. It can determine whether the sound is high or low pitched. How quiet or loud someone sings or speaks shows the dynamic.

3. Music is all around us in many different forms as well as expressions. All the way from song birds, to the piano, music is quite honestly everywhere. Not only this, but music is a great tool used for self expression as well as emotional relief for the artists as well as the audiences who participate in listening to their masterpieces. Pitch within music is measured mathematically by something called hertz. Pitches are commonly known as “higher” as well as “lower” tones that are incorporated within music. Some examples of this can be wind instruments which are generally lower pitches when compared to something such as the violin or the guitar. Pitches are given their values by the letters of the Alphabet. In addition to this depending on where the different letters are placed on the cleft, dictates the entire sound. The bass, treble, as well as the C or movable cleft are all examples of this. The most basic note is the oval note which is placed on the lines in order to dictate sound. The dynamic within music is defined by the velocity. Dynamics within music can include pianissimo (very light and soft), forte (loud), and finally fortississimo (very, very loud).

Another example is making music with water glasses. People may wonder how that happens but with the basic knowledge I have now I can see. When someone makes music with a water glass they fill a glass up with a little water and hit the glass. If there is less water, the higher the sound because the water lowers the vibrations. The correct measurements can create a note and when the glass hums, the note is played. The volume of the glasses are determined by the dynamic.
