1) I feel as though another cultural practice that shapes cultural citizenship that would be interesting and relatable to the students would be politics for “Part Two” of the course that. I’ve chosen this because politics is one of the few entities of society that can massively separate people like we’re seeing in the latest election and debates while bringing amongst the strongest communities together like the conservative party. Like comedy, politics has enabled people to use their platform to send a message amongst an audience, but in this political sense the entire nation, by speaking to the people about what their candidate is promoting, what they condemn, and how they can do such a better job then the incumbent or opposing political contender. Politics also allow people to identify with a set belief system which can create a community of like-minded people who perform similar practices, strive to enforce the same policies and coincidently like comedy, laugh at the same jokes of their or the opposing party. The kinds of tough questions that may need to be addressed to more fully understand the ways citizenship and belonging are shaped through these communal practices would be “What kind of things are accepted in this party that aren’t accepted in others?”, “Can there ever be an instance where all political parties can come to a common ground on a certain issue?”, “If it is, why is it important to identify with a certain political party? Explain thoroughly.” These questions are important to answer because they interpret what role politics take in cultural citizenship because it shows the level of impact it has on people and describes initially how/why people conduct certain practices.

2) This course has become a crucial component in understanding how materials can help shape cultural ideologies and what goes into cultural citizenship. In comedy’s realms, I never would have expected how much there is to consider when engaging in cultural practices. A continuation of this course for LBST280 Part Two could expand in the depths of Global Studies as it is interdisciplinary in the ways it can address cultural connectedness. In the same way, a comedy made us look at the big picture and the ways marginalized groups are affected, global studies will enable us to further our understandings of the big picture by analyzing specific countries and communities. Due to its complexities, global challenges can refer to various arguments to be discussed when considering the many viewpoints that can make a convincing argument. Such complexities can range from politics, religion, race relations, and much more. Topics could bring forth historical context or current matters. Global studies can be an immense topic. We could narrow it down to analyzing and comparing western culture to other significant regions of the world. The Americas, in comparison to the Middle East, Africa, or Asia, could call for divisive subjects. Some questions that can arise could be the ways citizenship values differentiate amongst perspectives within different regions and their effects on behaviors. This would entail an analysis of the interconnectedness of global ideologies and events and how they compare to western nations. LBST280 have enriched my understanding of the multicultural society, especially those within marginalized communities. Global studies will broaden this notion of citizenship, expanding what necessitates a sense of belonging globally.
