Strategic Thinking

Create an action plan

Thinking about the ways in which you can improve your strategic thinking, create an action plan that lists at least three things you can do at work that will help you improve your strategic thinking skills.

For each action you list, think about and note down a practical way or ways in which you’re actually going to put this action into practice.

For example, if you choose ‘Become more curious’, note down what this means. What will this action actually look like? Will it mean asking more questions at meetings? Reading more industry-related articles? Spending more time understanding what different parts of your organisation do?

Then, if you are working, implement and practise those actions! Start working on those actions as soon as you can. When you feel that those actions have become part of the way you do things, build on that plan. Add more actions and continue to grow!

If you’re not working, try implementing those skills in relation to your study. Be sure to keep practise them so that when you do start working, you can transfer them to your workplace! Make sure to make them part of the way you work from the very start.
