Please listen to one example of both OTR comedy and contemporary podcast comedy/humor (and do select something different than your aural curation, if you selected a podcast/radio show).

For your selections, please note how you came across the material, and then explore in some depth (a solid paragraph or two, at least) the development of the comedy, as an aural piece.

Consider: How/where is the humor created? How do you experience the humor, when it is purely aural? Do you find you long for a visual component as well, or does aural humor occupy a completely separate type of comedic experience? What elements are different, aural vs. visual, in terms of humor type (e.g. what works verbally that might not work visually – and vice versa)? And, if you choose both an older and newer broadcast to explore, what are some of the similarities and differences between the periods?

An online source to explore OTR is Archive.org (search for particular OTR titles; see below); below I’ve included another link, and of course, there’s YouTube.

For those interested in comedy beyond the United States, you can research foreign radio broadcasts (or, if coming from outside the USA, your own country’s radio/aural broadcast comedy history), to hear how their humor was aurally presented; it might be useful to listen to an American show, then, say, a Canadian or British piece, to have sense of the formal structure, how it might differ, within a (relatively) common language but different culture.

In a separate page, I will include an inventory of OTR, much of which is available to hear on archive.org (or, in some cases, youtube), or somewhere on the web.

There is no limit for the format and just make it around 300-400 words since it is just a disscussion.
