Troy University Critical Thinking on the Central Park Five Incident Case Study
Question Description
The documentary Central Park Five tells the story of five juveniles who were wrongfully convicted and spent between 6 and 13 years in prison before their convictions were overturned. The arrest, interrogation, charges, pretrial hearings, trail, convictions, and sentencing showed complete disregard for procedural rules.
Your responsibility is to critique this documentary, and discuss how the arrest, interrogation, charges, pretrial hearings, trial, conviction, and sentencing violated the Constitutional rights of accused persons. Discuss the role of law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys and the judge in the miscarriage of justice.
Your final paper is an opportunity for you to show off your knowledge of criminal procedure. This is not about the criminal law, but about the violation of procedural rules in the administration of justice. Please feel free to contact me if you need clarifications on any of the issues you observe in the documentary.
