Article title: Knowledge of Hand Hygiene in the Perspective of Nursing Professionals From an Emergency Service

Part I – Critical Analysis (62%)

The quantitative research process involves conceptualizing a research project, planning and implementing that project, and communicating the findings. The steps of the quantitative research process were briefly described in this unit of inquiry.

Answer the following questions using the provided evidence.

  1. What was the research problem for the study? (Include one in-text citation with your answer.)
  2. What was the purpose of the study?
  3. What type of quantitative research does this study represent?
  4. What was the method of data collection? What was the name of the instrument used and how many items did it contain?
  5. How was the data analyzed?
  6. What was the outcome of the study in reference to:
  1. the time required for the alcoholic solution to act on the skin and destroy most microorganisms.
  2. alcoholic solution covering the entire surface of both hands.
  3. the fastest way to sanitize hands when comparing rubbing with alcoholic solution and using soap and water.
  4. overall conclusion about the professionals in this study
  1. What level of evidence is this article according to the Hierarchy of Evidence?
  2. List the title of this article in correct APA format.

Part II – Recognition (4%)

Quantitative research is the traditional research approach in nursing; it includes descriptive, correlational, quasi-experimental, and experimental types of studies.

Identify which type of quantitative study (experimental, correlational, quasi-experimental, or descriptive) each statement below represents. (You may simply list the answer; you do not have to re-type the content.)

  1. The purpose of the study was to compare the effect of different time exposures to sunlight on in vitro cultures of Acinetobacter.
  2. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among stress, anxiety, and blood pressure in persons with a family history of strokes.
  3. The purpose of the study was to compare the effects of a patient-teaching intervention with usual care in community clinic patients.
  4. The purpose of the study was to explore the characteristics of health care organizations that provided subsidized care to low-income communities.

Part III – Evidence Search (14%)

EBP involves the use of the best research evidence to support clinical decisions in practice. The levels of research evidence are a continuum, with the highest quality of research evidence at the top of the pyramid and the weakest research evidence at its base (see Fig. 1.3). Evidence-based guidelines are rigorous, explicit clinical guidelines that have been developed based on the best research evidence available in that area.

Locate and provide one journal article on appropriate coping strategies for burnout prevention that would be a Level II, III, IV, or V study according to the Hierarchy of Evidence and:

1. List the complete weblink (URL) OR attach the evidence. If you choose to attach the evidence, list your answer as “Please see the attachment”. The link MUST be live/or the evidence must be attached, and the evidence must be published within the last five years.

2. Create the reference for the located piece of evidence in correct APA format.

3. Summarize the major conclusions of the evidence you found in 3-4 sentences.

Part IV – Construct a PICOT Question (10%)

Developing the clinical question in an area of interest and conducting an extensive search of evidence-based sources is an effective way to identify current evidence for use in practice. The clinical question is often developed using the PICO format which includes (1) population, (2) intervention, (3) comparisons, (4) outcomes, and sometimes (5) time.

Read the scenario, identify the PICOT elements based on the information provided in the scenario and then formulate a potential PICOT question.

Scenario:

  • You work at an institution that had a significant problem with burnout in bedside nurses. The Chief Nurse Executive (CNO) thinks that the key to preventing burnout over the course of a nurse’s career is for the nurse to use appropriate coping strategies. The CNO wants to have a formal hospital policy on burnout prevention to better support the bedside nurses.

  6. List the complete PICOT question for this scenario and indicate the PICOT question format(i.e. intervention, etiology, diagnosis, prognosis, meaning]
