Directions for completing an interview assignment of a manager in your career field:

– Interview a company manager responsible for the initiatives & directions within the company that are taught in this class. Write up your summation of the interview, including your evaluation of the maturity & capabilities of the company in regard to leadership.

– This report must be a minimum of 6 pages, not including the cover page, there is no maximum length.

Guidelines:

1. seek to interview the highest level manager you can because they will likely know more about the overall company use, knowledge & future of effective leadership & management in their company. Surprisingly, a higher-level manager will typically be the most likely to give you an interview.

2. find out if the subjects taught in this class are used in the “real world”.

3. find out if the company wants managers who have the skills & knowledge that are taught in this class.

4. find out if the manager thinks the subjects taught in this class are profitable & of value to his/her company.

5. find out if the manager has any control systems & software in place in connection with the topics taught in this class.

6. when composing a report on this interview, simply tell me what happened during the interview & what your impressions are.I do not want you to include your questions.

7. Does the company &/or the manager know of any conflict within the company when & if they use leadership?How does the company handle conflict in these areas?

8. Does the company expect their managers to understand the “world-class picture” when they encourage leadership?

9. Is it expected that hourly employees would support, know, use & support leadership?

10. Would the manager you are interviewing have any instances to tell of successes or failures they have had when using leadership skills?

11. What does the manager you are interviewing think of the future of leadership?

12. Does the company advertise what it is doing relative to this subject?

13. How much training does the company provide in leadership to employees & managers?
