1. The Structure of the Soul
In Republic 4, Socrates argues that the human soul consists of three parts: reason, spirit, andappetite (435c441c). Explain Socrates argument for this psychological theory. Is his argumentsuccessful? Defend your answer.
2. The Justice of the Individual
At the beginning of Republic 2, Glaucon distinguishes between three kinds of good, andchallenges Socrates to show that justice belongs to the second of these three kinds. DoesSocrates account of individual justice in Book 4 (442d445b) allow him to meet this challenge?Explain your answer.
3. The Immortality Argument
In Republic 10, Socrates gives an argument for the immortality of the soul (608d611a). Explainhow this argument works. Is the argument successful? Defend your answer.
