1. Hospital in one environ, ent where you will see people of all ages and all walks of life. Personally I have not run into a lot of racial disparity but I have witnessed some of the older men being disrespectful to women nurses or women physicians. Even though this is no racially driven, it creates tension because to appease the patient physicians transfer cases to another physician, it is an easy is that helps the patient feel better and gives them comfort, The women are well aware that it is patient mentality that creates it and they do not take it personal. When the patient becomes aggressive is when security is called in to deescalate he situation, but that is in rare occasions. All troubles are usually ironed out as soon as it is noticed. There are policies put in place to protect staff from negative behavior.

2. The racial and ethnic health care disparity that I experienced in the workplace where the prisoners are admitted to the hospital led to an increase of male nurses. The hospital administrators received complaints of substandard care from the staff. There was a meeting between the staff, administration, and the Prison liaison to get the root cause of the complaints. The complaints range from attitudes, the way that prisoners and guards will look at the female nurses, delivering cold food, late with medication, and violating HIPPA. The meeting yielded some biases from the staff. The biases were shared by Female nurses. The nurses refuse to care for the prisoner’s base on their sentence the lack of guards to curtail the prisoner verbal redirect.

A root cause of the complaints was the rolls were not defined for the nurses and the guards. The behavior of the prisoner and roll of the guard to combat the inappropriate behaviors of the prisoners were not addressed. The solution was to have only male nurses attend to the prisoners. This led to exposing a huge disparity in the workplace that needed to be addressed. Taking into account only the nurses, there is a disparity of male to female nurses. The administration at the time was predominantly female. Five years ago the ratio of men/female nurses was 1/30. Today the ratio is 9/30 male to female. The administration is now 1to 1 male-female staffer.

The procedures implemented to address the disparity were to form a committee to review and interview potential candidates. The committee consists of 9 members of various departments. The committee approves hirer or not bases on the candidate qualification. The guidance of Human Resources there is anywhere for one to three male nurses on the shift when possible. Since the establishment of the committee, advertisement, and bonuses more male nurse is applying to the hospital. the ratio of male nurses has increased. Not only the male but LGBT are also represented in the nursing pool.

With the increase of males nurses and staff retention, and worker cohesion is at the highest. The surprising aspect of having a diverse staff is the number of sick calls has decreased. The sick call out are log and monitor by human resources.

3. The two prime challenges of providing health care in rural areas include shortage of health care professionals as very few health care providers are willing to work in the rural areas where they are limited chances of networking with their colleagues or even advancing their skills and knowledge. Health professionals must maintain contact with their colleagues owing to the rapid transformations that are taking place in their field. The transformations align with emergence of new health conditions and technological advancement that seek to enhance the quality of health care. While in the rural areas, it is highly unlikely that health professionals can keep up with the said changes and therefore, most opt to remain in the urban areas.

The other challenge of providing health care in rural areas is distance and transportation as the communities are located in vast expanses of land, and are normally very few in number, meaning that at times, it might be a challenge receive health care when in need (Regis College, 2020). The situation is worse for the elderly and disabled living in these areas. I would address these challenges by implementing telemedicine, where the residence of rural areas can connect and communicate with their physicians from the comfort of their homes through electronic devices. The world is rapidly becoming interconnected through technological advancement such as the internet, which has helped eliminate the challenge of distance. The same should thus be applied in the rural areas to increase access to health care of the communities living in rural areas through telemedicine, which does not require walk in visits to the health care facility. It also enhances self-care management, especially for patients that suffer from chronic health conditions.
