Question Description

Reply to these 3 questions with a minimum of 150 words each and a reference each

1. The most difficult interview I have ever had was for the position I currently hold; Clinical Nurse Manager. Prior to applying, I held an Assistant Nurse Manager position in the same department, so I was interviewing with my colleagues. This has both positive and negative aspects, but I was more nervous and self-conscious then I have ever been in an interview. It was difficult to maintain 100% professionalism, because I had a rapport with members of the panel. Additionally, my organization uses behavioral questions (“tell me a time when …) and all my examples included situations and people that were known by the panel. A question that was particularly difficult was “tell me a time when you had a conflict with a co-worker”. The example I had intended to use involved someone that happened to be in the interview, so I had to change it to avoid additional discomfort. I was able to come up with a scenario, but the delivery was not as smooth as I would have liked. Looking back, I should have prepared scenarios that involved prior experiences unrelated to my current place of employment. Despite the awkwardness, I think my tenure worked in my favor because I was able to easily convey how much the department mean to me and my deep investment in its success.

2. I had a similar experience. I was probably 3 years in the Medical Billing aspect and I wanted to become a team lead. Here is where I think I dropped the ball:

I told the interviewer that I was aperfectionist. That being a perfectionist I am extremely competitive about almost everything, I feel judgemental of people who fall short of perfection and so on. For me, people admire me and valued me for my high level of achievements that I earned in such a short perios od time.

I explained to them, that with this quality of mine I would indeed be very honest with my work and prove to be an asset to the company. For a perfectionist, a job is way to shine. A way to stand out. Maybe even a way to validate one self. A perfectionist will take as much time as the job needs, no matter what other plans must get derailed. A perfectionist tries his very best to remove any possibilty of criticism. And the good thing is, when it’s succesfull, their work is wonderful to behold.

They did select me that day. But, today when I look back I realise that people become perfectionists, but not at the costs I thought. A perfectionist may smile beautifully on the outside, but feel frustrated, exhausted and unappreciated on the inside.

That day, I should have told them how much I would try to appreciate the opportunity if given the chance, how much I would try to build cordial relationships with everyone on board as well as treat everyone the same. A job isn’t always about getting work done with perfection. It’s sometimes a little more than that.

3. A resume is the most important component of a professional portfolio. While a professional portfolio is a compilation of proof of all claims made in an application, the resume is what is going to get your foot in the door and land an interview. As any hiring manager can attest (myself included), a resume is needed to convey an applicant’s professional identity while listing the components necessary for the position. First of all, a resume should include a statement of intention, or mission, that indicates a cultural fit with the organization. Also, brief summarization of relevant work experience, education, awards, and references allows the hiring manager to quickly determine whether an interview is warranted. Even though my organization employs excellent recruiters, I always double check that applicants that the required level of education and experience before requesting an interview. All the information included in a resume gives a decent picture of the applicant’s professional identity by instilling a first impression and showing what you have to offer (Why you should, 2018).

6. Why you should think of your resume as a brand statement. (2018). New Horizons Computer Learning Center. https://www.newhorizons.com/article/why-you-should…
